I haven't read the book yet (I've read Dune and am reading Dune Messiah atm) but I found out in the book apparently Alia kills herself by jumping off a ledge. Slightly different here but I think I like this version better. When she's like "Mummy. Help me" definitely gets you emotional. Alia was always a strong character but this from her shows that even someone like her isn't invincible. And at least here Alia gets to know and her final moments are of her mother holding her. The miniseries has the best cast of characters (except maybe Paul and Duke Leto. 2021 has the best Paul. But best Baron, Alia, everybody else in the miniseries cast)

That actor that played young Leto did a splendid job of portraying someone with infinite wisdom.

The Alia actress was the best actress in the series. This, the Sci-Fi channel version is a better rendition of the books than the current movies (2024) but I like the current movies too.

It's horrible to realize that Duncan has to come back again and again in different time periods facing time alone. After seeing the new adaptation and now seeing this version. Paul understands exactly what Chani warned and chose to be with her forever.

Poor Leto.

People mock SyFy adaptation of Dune. Saying it’s a high school play. It’s unwatchable. Production quality is horrible. Those same people don’t care that it’s the most book accurate adaptation of Dune. They compare it to a massive, big budget production quality of the new Dune movies. A product that is masterfully made films but took artistic freedom to change so many parts of the book. I appreciate the new Dune movies for what they are. But this miniseries I hold with more appreciation for staying true to the novels more so than any other.

When people ask me about Dune after watching the new movies, they ask which adaptation I thought was the best “book accurate” version. I tell them the miniseries. When you get past the low budget and limited cast because of the budget. The effort to put as much of the books in the miniseries was amazing.

Imo, this was way better in the book. The way she unexpectedly just drops from the window and doesn't even scream on the way down is just so much more tragic. I might have forgotten some details from the book btw. But here, you see it on her face, you fully expect it, and they hold you there knowing what's gonna happen for way too long.
